Lucy
I wait for what feels like hours in Annetteâs small reception area. The young man behind the reception desk seems to be more than a little annoyed by my presence. At least, thatâs what it feels like as he continues to angrily type away at his keyboard, muttering under his breath and staring daggers at the closed conference room door.
I stand with my back leaned against the wall closest to the elevator, no longer caring about my wrinkled blouse and tangled hair. No doubt I look like I had just let Matthew fuck my brains out on the couch in Annetteâs office. Hell, I had almost let him do just that.
I had wanted him to do that.
I fight the urge to march myself back in there and demand to know what the actual fuck had made him stop like he did. Why did he suddenly look so terrified? What did I do wrong?
The only thing keeping my feet firmly planted in their place was the fear of learning exactly what his reason for stopping really was.
Youâre repulsive, Lucy. Not even a man paid for sex wants to touch you.
I squeeze my eyes tight, refusing to cry here, as my motherâs voice resounds inside my head.
The sound of the conference room door opening pulls me from my dejected thoughts. Despite my wounded pride at Matthewâs rejection, I canât help but snicker to myself at Dylanâs obviously tousled appearance. Annette, for her part, looks thoroughly well fucked and completely casual at the same time. Mr. Secretary, however, does not look at all happy. His eyes bore into Dylanâs back as he walks to the elevator.
âReady to go, Lu?â Dylan asks, feigning nonchalance as he presses the button to call the elevator. Annette props her hip against the reception desk, folding her arms just under her rather impressive breasts. Mr. Secretary diverts his attention to her now accentuated cleavage, making no attempt to hide his stare.
âI look forward to our next meeting, Mr. Jacobson,â she purrs.
âIt was a pleasure, as always, Ms. Thomas.â He turns just enough to pin her with a look so hot I think she might combust on the spot. Even I can feel the heat in his stare.
He is trying to come across as completely unaffected by her, but I know better. To her credit, Annette lasts a full minute before blushing and looking away with a coy smile that touches her eyes.
I feel a pang of jealousy witnessing the exchange between the two of them.
âHey, Dylan,â I say with a small giggle as we step into the elevator when it arrives a moment later.
âYes, Lucy?â Dylan asks, sounding exasperated as he presses the button for the lobby.
âYour fly is down.â
The last thing we see before the elevator doors close is Annette throwing her head back in a fit of unrestrained laughter.
